Before James Chance, Suicide, Lydia Lunch. They also had a rhythm section called The Knees, but they rarely performed together. They disbanded in 1976 when the singer was run over by an ice cream truck on Atlantic Avenue.

Some say it was an accident, but we knew better. "My Love is Like a Tubular Bell" was their best song. Everyone was humming it in the summer of '75.

The Unchained Oysters

The Unchained Oysters live on the beach in Detroit, circa 1985.

"The Unchained Oysters was the toughest band when I was growing up in Detroit. Two girls, vocals and very loud electric guitar. Their most popular song was "Don't Lie to me Fat Fuck". During the summer we used to go see them play on the beach. The guitarist played an old battered Silvertone Stratotone model that sounded like she was skinning a cat. She was the meanest of the two. Gave me a black eye once for "making eyes at her girlfriend". She used to go around with a brick in her purse, that kind of girl. I don't know what happened to them and sometimes I wonder where they are now. I remember lying on the beach in Detroit and watching the sun set behind the refineries, the black smokestacks, the grey palm trees, and listening to The Unchained Oysters."

I've had this Rotring ArtPen for years. But the nib is so damn fine. It's supposedly Tony Millionaire's main tool, though, go figure. Like T Model Ford once said, "It's not the guitar, kid".

Comparing 3 Hunt Speedball nibs. The Hunt 22-B is my favorite, soft and brush-like. However, how the great Jamie Hernandez gets that tight, controlled line out of it, it's still a mystery to me.

Jealousy Party at Mercato Centrale

Jealousy Party video from the upcoming album MERCATO CENTRALE filmed on location in Florence's historical covered market. I dance, I play guitar, I buy donuts. And, like Ray says, all of my friends were there (not just my friends but their best friends too).
