Space Buoy Rendezvous

And one last Packing Sketch (I have a trainload though). Now back to packing.

One more packing sketch for the road

Hey I made one more! These are fun, the trick is not to miss the plane.
A little packing, a little sketching.

Packing sketch

Leaving for the old country. Will be back with more in a couple of weeks. This is a packing sketch (a sketch done while packing suitcases). See you next year.

3 Hunt Speedball nibs

Comparing 3 Hunt Speedball nibs. The Hunt 22-B is my favorite, soft and brush-like. However, how the great Jamie Hernandez gets that tight, controlled line out of it, it's still a mystery to me.

EAT! New story. Part 1.

New story! Trying a variety of nibs. On this page Hunt 22 b (the Hernandez nib!!) and the stiff but dependable Hunt 102.

Ach! Ive misspelled meadow, haven't I?

Jealousy Party at Mercato Centrale

Jealousy Party video from the upcoming album MERCATO CENTRALE filmed on location in Florence's historical covered market. I dance, I play guitar, I buy donuts. And, like Ray says, all of my friends were there (not just my friends but their best friends too). Jimmi grins, Giulia buys entrails, Mat Pogo grunts, WJ Meatball and her crazy moves, Veronica behind the mechanical eye, and all the others!
For more info on Jealousy Party ABSOLUTELY visit the BURP site: http://www.burpenterprise.com/burp/

Hair lotion again

It's so much fun drawing hairy stuff with this 102 Hunt nib I did a second take on the hair lotion thing.

Hair Lotion Disaster

The balloon says: "So, how's the hair lotion working?" Ha ha. A sadly autobiographic panel, the lotion I bought didn't work either.

The Dark Night in Italian

Batman is such a nice subject. I used a crazy Gillott 659, very flexible, almost like a brush.

Brick Bratford and his pop in: Nauseous Again

An oldie! I drew this more than 10 years ago while in Athens, Georgia on the banks of the Oconee river. Just found it with a bunch of old stuff and colored it on Photoshop, just because. Click on it to see it at proper size.

Experimenting with patterns in Photoshop. Looking for that fine Roy Crane effect. All digital no ink.

Awkward moments in crimefighting

Digitally inked. I'm starting to get the hang of it. Also, awkward moments do happen in the life of crime fighters.

100th POST! THE GATES ARE WIDE OPEN.

For Planetoids' 100th post I'm walking straight through the gates of communism. With Mat Pogo. Photo by Karen Graves.
See you on the other side.

EAT

More tablet fun. This would be really nice on a t-shirt. I wonder if Target would pick it up.

Saturday, September 1, 2012

Her name was Pauline

Inking with a Wacom tablet, scanned pencils. Still like the old way better.

The Real Adventures of E.A.Poe! Ep.3-4-5

There it is. I finished the inks in Sorrento, Italy, and colored it here in home sweet home Brooklyn.

More doodles from yesterday (doodleday).

Trying out some funky nibs. The venerable Salomon 21 is pretty swanky. The guy with the hat I really like. I still haven't figured out exactly what he does, but I'll have to feature him in a story sooner or later.

You can't stop doodleday!

Doodleday

Today is doodleday. Trying a variety of nibs. Wondering if I shouldn't stick with the old brush instead, and generally ignoring very important deadlines. Hurrah for doodleday!

Vendetta Robotica

When droids swear revenge.

New York's all right - if you like saxophones

I love living in the city. Click the image for full size. A mix of markers, cheap synthetic brush and a 1940s Esterbrook fountain pen. Some days I wish I were a water reservoir.

And in yellow!

With a bit of texture added for warmth.

More Flowers

Flowers again. Don't Know why. Having fun with a bunch of crazy and very old nibs (1920s-1930s).This one is an Esterbrook 805. Funny to think that Bud Fisher was still in his prime when they made these nibs and so was E.C. Segar.

Globe Girl #2

This girls has a globe.
Drawn with an ancient (1920's) A.L. Salomon nib found in an old bank vault. I'm still pushing on it too much.

On Break

Planetoids goes on Holiday for a few weeks. I'll be back with a carload of comics and more Poe.

Self-Portrait in Milos

Let's take a short break from the gloomy world of E.A. and let me take you to the beautiful Greek island of Milos. The coolest people and the most delicious grilled sardines in the Mediterranean. Here you see a picture of the artist minutes before he disrobed and jumped in the clearest, sweetest, warmest water ever known by a floating human body. This sketch was made with a japanese G-pen nib. Still trying to get the hang of it.
Next week, more Poe.

POE 2

Page 2 of the Real adventures of E.A. Poe. Experimenting with crowquills. Maybe not my cuppa, fun nonetheless. Stay tuned for next episode.

The REAL Poe

Here's episode one of The Real Adventures of E.A.Poe. This is the REAL Poe not that crappy Hollywood one played by John Cusack. Click on image to see full resolution. Stay tuned for the next episode.

more finger sketching

More instant ipad doodling with finger. I close with a nice E.A. Poe. Just because.
